GIRLS SOCCER

James Monroe 3, Shady Spring 1

Goals by three different players and a season-best performance by its keeper led James Monroe to victory over Shady Spring.

It was the Mavericks first win over the Tigers in nine seasons.

Keeper Emma Ballard was stellar in goal for the Mavericks with a season-high 22 saves.

That allowed goals by Mary Beth Meadows, Maija Kubish and Ryleigh Walker to be more than enough to earn the victory.

The James Monroe girls currently have a record of 2-2-2 and will return to action at PikeView Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Shady Spring fell to 4-1 with the loss and host Nicholas County on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
