Six different Coalfield Conference teams will have two players suiting up for the South Cardinals in the annual the North-South game Saturday, June 10 at Black Eagles Stadium in South Charleston.

The game will kick off at Noon.

Class AA state champion Independence will be represented by Jordan Harvey and Aaron Shiflett.

Harvey, a two-time first-team all-state linebacker, and the leading tackler his senior season and the second-leading tackler his senior year, will reprise that role in the North-South game.

Shiflett, along with his line teammates, holds the distinction of being one of the rare linemen in state history to block for two different Kennedy Award winners in back-to-back seasons after paving the way for Atticus Goodson and Judah Price the last two years. The 6-foot-2, 270-pound Shiflett will play football at Bluefield State this fall.

Nicholas County will send linemen Austin Altizer, 6-2, 260 pounds, and Roman Milam, 6-2, 295 pounds, to the game. The duo were members of an offensive line that helped Kaleb Clark rush for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back playoff seasons.

Oak Hill will send Jeremiah Jackson and Ethan Vargo-Thomas.

Jackson,  6-2, 215 defensive end, was one of the Red Devils leaders on defense. Ethan Vargo-Thomas was one of the Coalfield Conference’s most versatile players and was the only player in the state to score by touchdown, field goal, two-point conversion and extra point and score TDs by run (four TDs), receiving (three TDs) and passing (one).

Princeton record-setting quarterback (in just about every category and WVU signee Grant Cochran is one of two Tigers in the game. Cochran, who started every game in his career except one – his first game as a freshman – holds every major career, season, and game record at the school.

Rice, a two-way linebacker-fullback, will team up with Harvey as one of the Cardinals linebackers.

Summers County is sending two players in defensive back Duke Dodson and lineman Coen McClaugherty. They will get to play for coach Josh Evans one more time. He is an assistant coach in the game. Van’s Mark Agosti is the head coach.

Two members of Woodrow Wilson’s wide-open offensive attack in 1,000-yard rusher Matt Moore and versatile Tylai Kimble, who will play at wide receiver are set to participate as well.

Other Coalfield Conference players selected were Midland Trail’s Cody Harrell, Greenbrier East’s Lucas McCallister and James Monroe’s Josh Proffitt.
